Sheets Gets 2 Outs, Pen Leads the Way..
Ben Sheets, who was starting because of the injury to Rich Harden, left the game in the first inning after feeling tightness in his shoulder. “It wasn’t worth the risk,” said Bristol’s manager. However, the Accies pen was up to the task, going the rest of the way and allowing just three runs on six hits, as Bristol won the game, 5-3. Derek Jeter led the offense, knocking in three runs, one on a solo homerun in the first off Christian starter Randy Johnson. The Accies, via Jeter’s solo shot in the first, led 1-0 until the forth when Victor Martinez hit an RBI single. But, in the bottom half of the frame, the Accies took the lead again, 2-1, on a sacrifice fly by Jorge Posada that scored Albert Pujols. One inning later In the 5th, the Christians nodded the score again, 2-2, on an RBI double by Klein, only to see the Accies take the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI bloop single by Pujols which scored Gary Sheffield (who was in scoring position courtesy of a throwing error by Johnson, which allowed Sheffield to reach third base). In the 6th, the Accies added two more runs on a two run single by Jeter, to give the Accies a 5-2 lead. In the 7th, the Christians got one back, as Eric Chavez had an RBI groundout that scored Jimmy Rollins. But, Todd Jones and Jessie Crain got the final six outs to preserve the victory, 5-3. Game six is heading back to Florida. Johnson took the loss, allowing five runs in 5.1 innings. Kameron Loe got the win and Jesse Crain picked up the save. Chuck Klein had three hits in a losing effort.
