Information

This page is for posting tasks we need done within the Wiki. Of course, we also need regular updates to player profiles, teams, owners, etc., so it's not at all limited to these things. This is your encyclopedia; use it. If you have questions, ask. When new to Wiki and jumping in, use other pages as examples on how to do things. Use the edit button to see what things look like before posting. Also, remember, none of us is an expert at Wiki, so we're just messing around and trying new things. If something gets messed up, it's always fixable! Also, very important, please make a note on each of the below sections if something has been completed. Just click on EDIT that section and make a note, so we don't have people working on the same things.

WIKI NEEDS

Draft positions

Added original draft positions for all player in the 1999 B Free Agent Draft, as well as 2005 Rookie Draft. Need to complete the same for each player in the 2003 Rookie Draft and 2004 Rookie Draft, as well as the big one, 1999 Original Lp2 Draft. Check out Josh Beckett as an example "Selected 6th overall in the 2001 Rookie Draft by the Bristol Academicals." We need the draft position for every player in the 1999 draft entered on that player's page like it is on Beckett's.

Drafts Lost Data?

Also need entire draft lists for 2000 Rookie and FA drafts, 2001 Rookie Draft is also missing most of second round. Maybe someone can find these lists somewhere? And then create the pages in the same fashion found here: Draft.

Player Highlights

Need to go through the Yahoo Group and "Interesting Games" section of the message board (as well as other parts of the message board) to find big games by players and add them to their WIKI page. I've done a number of examples to follow (just click on 'edit' and copy it, then paste and modify on the new players page). Examples: Juan Pierre, Ernie Banks, Corey Koskie.

Update: All Highlights from the "Interesting Games" section have been entered as of 06/28/06.

Trades

We need to utilize the Yahoo Group and Lp2 message board and create a trade page for trades occuring during the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons. You can find the template/example on how they need to look by visiting 1999 Trades or 2000 Trades. This will be a time consuming task, as not only do you have to search tediously through the Yahoo group for the older seasons (2002), you need to format them the way they are in the above links (at least for the later seasons, we have an actual trade link on the message board which keeps things organized). Those trade pages also need to be categorized in Trades. This is a piece by piece project that won't be done in one hour!

Retired Players

All players that have been created in the Wiki but have retired need to be changed from Players to Players Retired. This is done by going to the player, clicking on "edit" and adding the word "Retired" after "Player," so that the term "Category:Players Retired" is within the [[ ]].

Player Photos

We need a player photo entered at the top of the page for most players in the database. There are a couple of rules to follow:

  • Mug shots should be 65-70X90. ESPN player photos are 65x90. If you're unsure of the dimensions, just right click on the photos and select "properties." That will show you the dimensions of the picture.
  • Try to keep the file size at 10KB, or under. The same page that has the pics dimensions also has the byte size (in bytes, not KB). All ESPN player photos, I believe, fall under acceptable dimensions and sizes.
  • Upload the file to WIKI, via the "Upload File" link on your left.
  • Please name all files using the players actual EXACT name. IE: Richie Sexon's photo should be "richiesexson.jpg." This ensures ease of use at any time on any part of the site.
  • It's best to just go to ESPN.com and right click, save picture as, enter players exact name and save to a folder. Then once you've got a number of them in the folder, upload them one by one into WIKI.
  • To add the player's picture to his page once uploaded on WIKI, do the following: Click on player's page, click EDIT. At the top of the page, click on the little "photo" on the task bar. That will insert Image:Example.jpg on the page. Replace "example" with the name of the player. Click "preview" to make sure it worked.

Teams of the Past

  • Many, many past teams still must be entered into the Wiki database, like the 1999 B Los Angeles Kings; all final rostered players must be entered, but also any relevant team information. Every team for every year. Category is Category: Past Teams.

Articles

  • Need past articles researched and added to the Wiki. Can use the Yahoo Group Files section for some, use the message board and Yahoo Group messages for others. Get whatever you can find. Try to only use ones that are actually in article form and contain something of value and substance with good information. Place them in Category:Articles.
