In a wild back and forth game, which was the first game of a fantastic double header, the Birmingham Black Barons took a 2 games to 1 lead over the Seattle Pilots. Frank Baker HOF led the hit brigade, going 4-5, as Nap Lajoie HOF, who's game winning RBI single scored Baker in the top of the 9th, had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Juan Marichal HOF who was tied for the league lead in wins at 26-4, gave up 15 hits and 6 runs in 5 innings, but the bullpen was good enough, allowing just 1 run in 4 innings of work. "What a great game," said Lajoie, referring to the 5 lead changes and one tie, "one of the best I've ever been a part of.

The Pilots racked up 19 hits, but were stymied by 4 double plays. "Those DP's killed us," said Dan Brouthers HOF, who had 4 hits in the loss. Mordecai Brown HOF got the win, Mickey Welch HOF the loss, Red Faber HOF the save.

In attendance for the game, Joe Chapman, Joe Terry and Donny Byer. Each manager was in control of their own substitutions.
