Lazzeri, Pilots Within One Game of Title...

Comiskey Park I: Ever heard of a second chance? Phil Niekro HOF got a second chance and made good, throwing three no hit innings in relief of Warren Spahn HOF, as the Seattle Pilots are now within one game of winning the first ever Lp2 HOF League title. In the top of the 5th, down 5-2, the Pilots came roaring back off surprise starter Whitey Ford HOF, with 5 runs on 5 hits, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Tony Lazzeri HOF which proved to be the game winner. "Great comeback," said Birmingham Black Barons owner Joe Terry, "we're going back to Alabama ," needing to win out. Ernie Lombardi HOF and Lazzeri each had 3 hits, as Spahn got the win and Mickey Welch HOF his second save. Spahn allowed 5 runs, only one of them earned, as the Pilots committed 4 errors in the game. Willie Mays HOF had 2 hits in the loss.

In attendance for the game, Joe Chapman and Joe Terry. Each manager was in control of their own substitutions.
