Player Notes

  • 2005: Serving as the lefty mashing part of a catching platoon, 'Tek set career highs in average (.324), on base (.405) and slugging (.626). He also connected for 16 homers in just 179 atbats, drove in 33 runs and scored 35 times.
  • 2004: With the arrival of Joe Mauer, Varitek saw his playing time decrease, but his effectiveness against lefties (.370 average against) made him more productive. He combined for 32 homers and 105 RBI in 768 atbats.
  • 2003: Traded to the Ybor City Rollers to be the regular catcher, Jason appeared in a career-high 264 games, hitting .232 with 44 homers, 123 runs and 129 RBI.
  • 2002: Again stuck in a part time role, Jason hit a little better (.230), with a career-best 50 RBI.
  • 2001: Varitek appeared in 172 games with the expansion West Baden Sprudels, hitting .221 with 6 homers and 39 RBI.
  • 2000: He only managed 132 atbats, and he hit a meager .167 with 6 2B and 16 RBI.
  • 1999: Jason managed just a .213 average to go with his 14 homers and 67 RBI in his first 2 Lp2 seasons.
