Daily Glance
- Grudz and Ibanez combine for 7 hits and RBI's! (11/21/06)
The Staten Island Squires needed a boost after a tough loss the night before, and Mark Grudzielanek and Raul Ibanez provided it. Ibanez had 4 hits and scored 4 times, while Mark missed a cycle by a 2b, driving in 5 runs in the process.
Craig Counsell, Vinny Castilla and Victor Diaz combined for 10 hits and 10 RBI's for the South Dade Rattlers...
The Macon Enemies pitching has struggled so far on the season, but their offense put up a 7 spot against the Sioux City Angels, would it be enough?
And finally, the Camden Crusaders and Gainsville Gators renewed their parent clubs rivalry as Byung-Hyun Kim and Javier Vazquez squared off.
- More Runs Scored at Night, as Crusaders and Dragons Battle! (11/20/06)
Falling behind 5-0 after the 1st inning wasn't a problem for the Camden Crusaders as they notched at least one run in each inning after the 5th against the Cardiff Dragons in a wild game that saw 29 runs and 36 hits! Ryan Langerhans led the hitters with a 5-for-6 night, including 5 RBI, while Austin Kearns, Matt Stairs, Scott Rolen, J.J. Hardy, Willy Aybar, Glenn Williams, Rene Rivera and Alex Sanchez all collected two or more hits!
Elsewhere, Francisco Liriano continued to shake off his shaky first start, by striking out 10 St. Lambert Lock, en route to his second victory.
In Sioux City, the Angels fans enjoyed a magical moment as Xavier Nady stepped to the plate with the bags packed and his team down 4-1, and sent a 0-1 pitch from Staten Island Squires closer J.J. Putz deep to left!
- Score-fest in Providence Highlights Morning Games (11/20/06)
The Macon Enemies and Providence Bandits combined for 25 runs on 29 hits; and each team had a 5+ run inning! Junior Spivey, Phil Nevin and Michael Restovich each had 3 RBI's, while Pete Walker was the unlucky pitcher of the night, allowing hits to the 3 batters he faced, all 3 batters scored and he failed to record an out.
In a showdown of first place teams, the Gainsville Gators got an unlikely source of power in closer Jon Papelbon, whose first PCL hit was a two-run homer off the Camden Crusaders Josh Hancock.
Aaron Cook and Brett Tomko dueled in Toronto; Jason Johnson continued his great pitching, tossing a complete game for his 2nd win, while the Camden Crusaders and South Dade Rattlers combined for 5 runs in the 9th inning!
Player of the Day
11/21/06
- 2B Mark Grudzielanek got the Staten Island Squires going with a 2-run single in the 4th inning of their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he didn't stop until he had racked up 3 hits (a single, triple and homer), 2 runs scored and 5 RBI's.
11/20/06
- OF Ryan Langerhans was the talk of the day’s games, as he knocked out 5 hits, crossed the plate 3 times and drove home 5 runs during the Cardiff Dragons thrilling 15-14 loss to the Camden Crusaders.
- Langerhans' performance almost overshadowed OF Xavier Nady's walk-off grandslam for the Sioux City Angels, as they came from behind to defeat the Staten Island Squires.
About
One of the great parts of the LP2 is the incorporation of a full-fledged minor league system, known as the PCL.
The season runs from the completion of the LP2's World Series, for a 100 game schedule, using players on LP2 rosters that did not reach minimum playing time limits during the prior LP2 season. These limits are currently 200 at bats for position players, 40 IP for starting pitchers, and 20 IP for relievers.
Because the LP2 season often runs until early November, the PCL schedule is tentatively scheduled to be played in two parts; 70 games (or near that amount) will be played (2 games per day) until one week prior to Christmas, with the remaining games being played after the New Year. This gives owners, managers and players a chance to be with family and friends during the Holiday Season. The Playoffs will be held immediately following the season, leading up to the LP2's annual Draft in early February!
Because rosters will be limited to those players that did not appear during the Lp2 season, FA pickups will be allowed. The Process is below:
- A week before the season begins, the FA Wire will be opened. Teams will be able to submit requests for up to 3 FA Pickups.
- Requests will be handled one at a time, and are processed on a first come, first serve basis.
- During the season, teams will be allowed one FA pickup per week.
- Each week will begin Sunday at midnight.
- Those requests will also be handled on a first come, first serve basis.
- Rosters will be held to a 35 max limit. If you have 35 players and wish to pick up a free agent, you must include a player to be dropped with your pickup request!
