Team History

After an impressive 108 win season the Lake Ella Angels were able to pull out a PCL Championship in seven grueling games. The back-to-back defending champion New York Giants proved to be a worthy opponent for the Angels, but in the end spectacular pitching won the series.

The Giants bats were held to a .186 average and managed just 17 runs in the seven games, despite hitting 11 homeruns.

Mark Mulder and Dave Williams were named Co-MVP's after the conclusion of game seven. Mulder won both of his starts, allowing 9 hits in 15 innings for a 1.20 ERA. Williams spun a three-hitter in game two to get the Angels back into the series after being one-hit in game one by the Giant's Barry Zito. For the series, Williams posted an 0.60 ERA and allowed just 5 hits in 15 innings, while striking out 17.

"That game two start was a back breaker. We were coming off an amazing performance by Barry that had us brimming with confidence, but he came in here and just silenced our bats." Keith Ginter commented.

Eric Byrnes was the main offensive weapon in the series for the Angels. He hit .292 with 2 homeruns and 7 runs scored. The Angels were held to a .224 average in the series and only managed 24 runs.
