Flashes, Jacks, Heading to Lp2 World Series:
The Eighty Four Lumberjacks and the Finger Lakes Flashes are heading to the 15th Lp2 World Series. The Jacks eliminated the Ybor City Rollers 4 games to 2, as Torii Hunter hit a pair of homers in game 6 to lead the way. Russell Martin (.538) and Chuck Klein (.409) were just too much for Ybor pitching, as 84 scored 10 or more runs in 3 of the 6 games in the series. "I just didn't have it," said C.C. Sabathia, who was shelled in both of his starts, "they have a veteran team and a very good offense."
The Jacks will face the Flashes, who will be making their second straight Lp2 World Series appearance, after losing last year to the Rollers 4 games to 2. The Flashes sent the mighty Bristol Academicals packing, after one-run victories in both 2007 Opening Series 1; Game 5 and 2007 Opening Series 1; Game 6. "It was a great series," said Todd Helton, who hit the walk-off sac fly in game 6 after the Accies tied it in the top of the 9th on an error by Alex Rodriguez, "everyone knows Bristol is a great team and for us to even have the chance to play them in the playoffs is great. But, I must admit, beating them sure feels better!" Jason Isringhausen notched a win and a save in the series.
