The Boston Bombers started 2007 with a youthful roster and bright outlook for the future. Early on, the Bombers overachieved, hanging in the playoff picture for most of the first half. Unfortunately the inexperience showed as the season wore on. The length of the season eventually wore down many of the team's bright young stars, forcing replacements into important roles. The Bombers finished a disappointing 56-106.

Mired in a tough season, Joey Gathright gave Liberty fans something to be proud of. Gathright became the first player in Liberty history to hit for the cycle during the team's 8-7 victory over the Herkimer Magicians. Fresh off the trade of popular 3B Adrian Beltre, Gathright made made some positive news for night. Gathright went 4 for 6, raising his average to .348. Gathright led off the game with a double, following it up with solo shot in the second inning for his first home run of the season. The single came in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a ground in the sixth inning, Gathright was able to turn out the jets and leg out an eighth inning triple to complete the cycle. Zach Greinke racked up an impressive performance of his own, striking out ten batters in eight innings. Greinke came away with no decision due to a blown save. Delmon Young capped off the slugfest with a walk off home run in the eleventh inning.

Ian Snell Burns The Devils

April 9, 2008

Ian Snell looked good in his first outing with the Philadelphia Liberty. He looked almost unhittable in his second start. The Sun City Devils found themselves on the wrong end of one of the finest performances in the young history of the Liberty. The Liberty, formerly the Boston Bombers, could be headed for big things if they get more gems like Ian Snell's 5-0 victory. Snell pitched a complete game, two hitter to earn his first win of the season. Snell struck out six Devils while walking only one. Adrian Beltre led the way on offense, going 2 for 5 with 2 rbis to raise his average to .370. Beltre also cranked his team leading third home run to stake the team to an early lead in the opening inning.

A grizzled veteran and a top prospect put on one of the finest pitching duels in LP2 history Wednesday night. Roy Oswalt of the New York Knights and Scott Olsen of the Boston Bombers pitched gems for their respective teams, with the Knights ultimately winning 2-1 in ten innings. For eight innings, the two pitchers shut down opposing hitter after opposing hitter. The perennial all star Roy Oswalt pitched eight full innings with four strikeouts and surrendering only one hit. Young fireballer Scott Olsen threw 7 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts, allowing only four hits. The game stayed scoreless through nine innings, before the Bombers notched one run in the tenth inning. Bombers closer Adam Wainwright then gave up two losses, suffering the loss.

January 17, 2007

Sean Henn, Troy Percival, and Adam Wainwright were sensational

Mired in a losing season, the Providence Bandits finally found a bright spot this week in a pitching gem. Facing the St. Lambert Lock, the light hitting Bandits returned the favor in a one hitter. Pitchers Sean Henn, Troy Percival, and Adam Wainwright combined for the one hitter in a 3-0 victory. Henn threw easily his finest game of the season, going seven and a third innings, giving up the lone hit, and striking out two batters. Troy Percival finished off the eight inning. Adam Wainwright took over in the ninth throwing flames, striking out all three batters he faced.

In 2006, their first year under new ownership, the newly dubbed Boston Bombers set about a massive rebuilding project. With too few pieces to compete, the Bombers worked instead on their foundation, acquiring a great farm system of some of the league's top young talent. The 2006 season saw few highlights with the Bombers stumbling to a 50-112 record. But things look bright down the road for the Bombers' faithful.
